HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND
Established
by the Kenya Government in 1973, KPC has successfully fulfilled the role
it was meant for, to provide the most economical and modern way of
transporting and storing petroleum products. The
Company, which is wholly owned by the government and operates under the
parentage of Ministry of Energy, was mandated to construct, operate and
maintain a multi-products pipeline from Mombasa to the hither land. The
450km long pipeline to Nairobi (Line 1) was commissioned in 1978.
Following the successful operations of Mombasa-Nairobi line in 1991, the
company embarked on an expansion of the pipeline to Western Kenya towns of
Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu (Line 2 and 3). The 446km pipeline extension
was successfully completed and commissioned in 1994. Social Responsibility Other than commercial ventures, the company supports and takes part in agricultural shows. It also has one of the best women volleyball team, which also represents Kenya in International tournaments. They are currently the Africa Women Club Champions.

Clients
Over the past two years, the list of clients who have entrusted KPC with responsibility of transporting and storing their products has more than doubled. They are: Shell, BP (Kenya) Ltd., Caltex Oil (Kenya), Fuelex, Jovenna, Kenol/Kobil, Mobil, National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), Total Kenya, Gapco, Engen, Mafuta Products and Petrol.
