Quality Control

All products are transported in a single line at intervals or in batches. The task of ensuring that they are not contaminated becomes utmost. To ensure this, the Company has a quality control section who’s role is to guarantee quality, that is, offer “ Quality Assurance” of all products passing through the line.

There are different sources of products contamination, which the company must guard against. The company as a result has well equipped laboratories backed by qualified staff whose responsibility is to carry out sample analysis of the received products. This way, KPC has managed to demonstrate over the years its ability to deliver petroleum products with similar specifications as indicated in the certificate of quality from the origin of the products’ refinery.

All products are handled to very high quality standards that meet both the international standards for Jet fuel and Kenya Standards for ground fuels. KPC has is own Quality Control Laboratories and has recently constructed an ultra-modern laboratory at Mombasa, which has been constructed to an independent operator to achieve the desired independence.

Safety

All KPC depots are fitted with Self-sustaining fire fighting equipment and appliances.  KPC staff are all trained in basic fire fighting to give first aid in fire prevention and extinguishment.  The company has continued to act pro-actively in fire-disaster preparedness and has recently acquired a state of are fire tender.  This will go a long way in preparing KPC to fight fire where the local authorities cannot reach the incident site on time.

Maintenance

It includes servicing of pumps, valves and meters used in the transfer of products. In addition to protecting the line from external corrosion, KPC uses a dual system consisting of protective coatings and electrical impressions called Cathodic Protection. This is necessary to prevent corrosion-related leaks and raptures on the line. The cleaning of the pipe is done using equipment called “pig” and this is mainly to rid the base of the pipe of debris, scales and sludge.
